Upcoming Digital Readiness Checks:
All 9th, 10th and 11th grade students who are testing this spring are required to complete a Digital Readiness Check. This check will give students an opportunity to test that their school-issued Chromebook is ready for the PSAT/SAT and allow time to complete practice questions to become familiar with the digital testing format. In addition, we will walk students through the steps to create a College Board account. The College Board account allows students access to full-length practice tests to prepare for the PSAT/SAT.
The Digital Readiness Check will take place April 2nd-4th. You can view the schedule here. Students will be called down by grade/last name to the Media Center to complete this check. It is crucial that students bring their charged school-issued Chromebook and charger to school on the day of their Digital Readiness Check.
Student Technology Support
If your student does not have their school-issued Chromebook yet, or if their Chromebook is in need of repair, please make an appointment with the technology department at this link: https://form.jotform.com/203207837751153. These appointments take place at the Administration Building (52585 Dequindre Road, Rochester, MI 48307).
College Board’s BigFuture School for 10th and 11th Graders
In addition to getting their score reports from their school, students may access their test scores on the mobile application College Board’s BigFuture School™ (https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/digital/educators/in-school-testing/introducing-bigfuture-school ).
Students can download BigFuture School from an app store and then use the phone number they provided during testing to authenticate into the app. Once there, students can see their scores and get customized career information and guidance about planning and paying for college. The phone number that the student provides during testing is used only for app authentication and to notify the student by text that test scores are ready. During testing and while using the BigFuture School app, students can opt into Connections™. This new program, which is free to students, connects students to nonprofit colleges, scholarship organizations, and nonprofit educational organizations interested in students like them, without disclosing any of the student’s personal information.
If you would like to opt of of these features, you must complete this Opt-Out Form (https://www.michigan.gov/mde/-/media/Project/Websites/mde/OEAA/MME/Parental_Guardian-Opt-Out-Form-for-Optional-Information-Provided-During-the-SAT-Suite-of-Assessments.pdf ) We ask that you complete this form and email a signed copy to Mrs.Tocco at [email protected] If you are not able to e-mail a signed copy, please have your student bring a signed copy to the main office.
Students Celebrating Eid al-Fitr
This year, the PSAT 8, PSAT 10 and SAT all fall on April 10th which coincides with the Muslim holiday, Eid al-Fitr. Rochester Community Schools recognizes the significance of this celebration for our Muslim community and will be offering an alternate testing opportunity (April 23rd) for these assessments. If this applies to you, please complete the following online form by Friday, March 1st. This will ensure that we have ample time to prepare for the number of students requesting this alternate testing date. If you have any question please contact your school’s Counseling Department.

The Cougar Jazz band has a big performance coming up! They are teaming up with the Jazz Bands from Rochester and Adams along with Scott Gwinnell (Oakland University) to perform at historic Music Hall in Downtown Detroit on Tuesday, April 2nd (right after spring break). This is a really special performance for all of our kids and there are NO other jazz bands in the state that get to do an event like this—It’s so special for them to play the same stage as Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, among other great performers. Use this link to RSVP for this special event: https://forms.gle/PZaoMWJqNo7VNa3RA
We will have combos from Stoney starting to play in Aretha’s Jazz Café starting at 5:30pm, followed by the main show starting at 7pm. It’s really a great night of live music in a memorable venue! |

IMPORTANT FAFSA UPDATE
Now is the time for your student to submit their 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at https://studentaid.gov. Please be sure both the student and parent(s) each have their own studentaid.gov credentials to complete the FAFSA. Each person needs to set up the credentials at least three days before starting the application.
Every eligible student should complete the FAFSA, if they are planning to attend college or a trade school in the fall. The FAFSA is what makes students eligible for federal, state and some college-specific financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans and work-study. There is NO REASON to wait to complete the FAFSA, as it is based on 2022 tax information.
For more information, check out a newsletter devoted specifically to Financial Aid.
For more information, please reference our FAFSA Update.

protect your student on their devices
The Michigan Child Protection Registry has added more apps to keep kids safe from being targeted by adult ads while on their devices.
Districts across Michigan, like yours, always ask - How can we help our families keep their children safe while online? One resource that is extremely important to make parents aware of is the Michigan Child Protection Registry. This Registry is a do-not-contact service that families can easily and quickly sign up for at www.ProtectMIChild.com in order to keep their children safe while on their devices at school and at home. This is a free Registry offered through the State of Michigan that stops adult advertisements from reaching our kids through e-mail, text, Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Discord, Twitch and TikTok. This Registry is an excellent resource for making sure our kids aren’t being served ads for alcohol, tobacco/vaping, online gambling, pornography or marijuana.
