The SCHS scheduling week for the 2023-24 school year is well underway!
Students attended scheduling presentations on Tuesday and Friday where they received course information and details regarding the course selection process. The Cougar Course Fair will be taking place on Monday where students will have the opportunity to learn more information about classes they are interested in taking next year. We encourage parents and students to have meaningful discussions on course selections. Please visit the scheduling smores for detailed scheduling information:

StudentVUE course selection input due February 1, scheduling cards due February 2
11th grade scheduling presentation smore

The counselors will be available during all three lunches on Friday, January 27th and Monday, January 30th to answer scheduling questions.

Current sophomores and juniors have received an individual appointment time with their counselor to review their course selections in February and March. The scheduled appointment date and time is listed near their name on the scheduling card. If your student has questions prior to their appointment time, we have encouraged them to visit the counselors during the lunch meetings. If they still have questions, that is ok! We want the students to fill out their scheduling card to the best of their ability and we will utilize those meetings to talk through their questions/concerns.

Freshmen who would like more guidance have been encouraged to see the counselors during lunches on Friday and Monday. If they need more guidance, they can make an appointment in the counseling office for early-mid March.

World Language Community Outreach

The first week of March 2020 marked Foreign Language Week (FLW).  One of the key activities associated with FLW is our charity drive.  That year students went above and beyond and collected an unprecedented amount of money.  Unfortunately, COVID struck less than a week after the end of our activity and the money would sit in our account waiting to be distributed.  We are excited to announce that the World Language Department was able to donate over $6000 to 2 charities, Dutton Farm and the local chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women’s Back to School Store.

Parentvue - weekly grade reports

The weekly grade reports sent via email are not working at this time. We do not have a resolution time estimate from the software developer, but we'll start sending them out again once they are ready to go. In the meantime, please login to ParentVUE and click on Grade Book to see your child's current grades.
Contact rcsvuehelp@rochester.k12.mi.us if you need assistance with ParentVUE.

Attendance

Our students’ attendance matters to us. We want and expect them to be here as much as possible. We value their presence, and their academic success is dependent on it.  Organized or coordinated absences from school are not endorsed by Rochester Community Schools, for example “Senior Skip Days”. Students who decide to take part in these events will be responsible for all missed work and assessments that occur on that day. Teachers will be continuing instruction as normal.

Student Pick up after school / Parking

As a reminder at the end of the school day, students must be picked up in the parent loop on the south end of the school off Tieken Road.  If the student can not be picked up in the loop, please park in the Junior or senior lots by the auditorium or the pool.  Please do not pick students up on the north end of school.  The loop is reserved for buses and authorized vehicles with permits only.

counseling

JUNIOR PARENT NIGHT
Before the holiday break we sent a post-secondary planning presentation to junior parents. There are buttons throughout the smore with recorded presentations concerning many important parts of junior and senior year topics. Junior students had the opportunity to meet with counselors to review and discuss this information as well as time to explore and research potential plans. If your student has questions or needs any support in the process, please encourage them to make an appointment with their counselor.

ENGINEERING AND COMPUTER SCIENCE DAY AT OU
See how OU’s School of Engineering and Computer Science pushes the boundaries of learning. Like how robots mingle with humans, or how networks are secured from hackers. Held from 9am-2pm on January 28th at Oakland University.

JUNIORS
For information on junior year and to find a student & parent checklist, visit the counseling smore.

SENIORS - COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS
For information and guidance on the college application process check out our smore.

FINANCIAL AID VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS
If you missed the financial aid presentations by OU, a recorded version of the presentation will be posted at oakland.edu/financialevents. Additionally, Michigan’s department of Treasury Student Aid team is providing several virtual financial aid presentation options. See link for more details.

FINANCIAL AID

Financial Aid is an important part of paying for college and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is open for the 2023-2024 school year, your senior's first year of college. We are grateful for Oakland University’s partnership and these other resources available as a free public service. Feel free to access further financial aid related information on this link.

Rochester Community Schools believes that an important foundation for successful teaching and learning includes the need to feel safe, valued, and respected. To that end, Stoney Creek High School will be participating in No Place for Hate®, a national program that supports schools in their commitment to honor diversity, promote respect for differences, challenge bias, and prevent bullying at all levels.

No Place for Hate was developed by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a leading anti-hate organization that has worked for more than a century to “secure justice and fair treatment to all.” No Place for Hate will help RCS incorporate valuable resources into existing programs to have one consistent message of inclusivity.

To learn more about No Place for Hate, or to access family resources on challenging bullying and bias, please go to: https://www.adl.org/education-and-resources/resources-for-educators-parents-families.

If you have questions about No Place for Hate, please contact the Stoney Creek High School administrative team.  With your help, we will continue to ensure that our school community is a safe and welcoming space for all.

Sincerely,
Stoney Creek Administrative Team

safety and security update

SAFETY AND SECURITY IS A TOP PRIORITY!

The safety and security of all students and staff at Stoney Creek is always a top priority. To help us in these efforts, please see the information below:
  • Students can enter through 3 entrances: the Main Doors, the Athletics Doors, and the Auditorium Doors.
  • Campus will remain closed throughout the school day. All grades will have lunch on campus.
  • Students are NOT to utilize fast food delivery services. For example, DoorDash, Grub Hub, Instacart, or Uber Eats, etc. for food delivery.
  • If students are traveling to other campuses throughout the day, they are asked to check out of SCHS in the Attendance Office and check back in when they return.
  • Students are encouraged to utilize their assigned lockers to minimize their belongings in the classroom.

If you see something, say something. Please report all safety and security concerns to the Main Office Staff or to Officer Drehmer.

my school bucks

Rochester Community School operates its meal program using Point of Sale Computers (POS). Our computers are capable of tracking all pre-paid lunch sales. In addition, you may view a detailed account of what meals or snack your child has purchased and your account balance by creating an account on https://www.myschoolbucks.com . This is a free service for the convenience of our parents. If you child receives free or reduced price meals, rest assured they will not be identified in front of others.
If your student qualifies for free/reduced lunch, students are required to enroll yearly. You can apply by clicking here.

work permits

You can obtain a work permit in the counseling office as well as in the vestibule outside of the main office. Make sure to choose the appropriate form (there is a form for UNDER 16 and a separate form for 16 & 17 year olds).
Complete Section I, have your employer complete Section II, then bring back to SCHS to be completed  (if a parent is bringing the form for their student, we will need a photo ID of the student in order to complete the work permit). Work permits are completed between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

RAHCC looking for volunteers

The Rochester Auburn Hills Community Coalition (RAHCC) Youth Action Council is looking for middle and high school students to volunteer for community events all year long. Students will gain leadership skills, earn community service hours and help make a difference.   The RAHCC supports mental health, builds awareness about substance misuse, and encourages healthy lifestyle choices through programming in the schools and throughout the community. The Coalition also awards a scholarship to deserving students. If interested, please send an email with your name, grade (in the fall) and school to:  Mrs. Schurman, Community Outreach Coordinator for Rochester Community Schools.
