Safety Message
We understand there is a great deal of excitement and anticipation as the Thanksgiving and winter recesses approach. All students are encouraged to stay focused, make good choices, and exercise the control necessary to channel energy productively.
Earlier this week, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard shared a safety message for students, where he talks about the consequences of making threats of school violence—a trend that appears to be occurring across Oakland County. To watch the video, please go to: https://vimeo.com/771687629. In his communication, Sheriff Bouchard also reassures students that law enforcement will do all they can to keep our community safe. Students are encouraged to talk with a trusted adult if they see, hear, or experience something that doesn’t seem right.

Wellness Weekend
stoney creek giving tree
It’s that time of year when the Giving Tree will be up and fully decorated in the senior locker bank! Not only is the tree a sign that break is coming soon, but also a symbol of helping others in our own Stoney Creek family enjoy the holiday season.
Students and staff are welcome to visit our sign-up genius to select your gift card options. We request that all gift cards are returned by 3pm on December 14th so we have ample time to organize the donations for our families. When students return a gift card to the counseling office, they will be given a paper ornament on which they can write their family’s name and any kind words to receiving families. All ornaments will be hung on the Giving Tree in the senior locker bank to help decorate it for the holiday season.
If your family is in need this holiday and would benefit from our Stoney Creek Giving Tree, please fill out this confidential form or visit the counseling office to pick up a physical copy. The requests are due back to the counseling office on December 14th.
Let’s make this holiday great for every one of our Stoney Creek families!

nhs tutoring
NHS students will be available several days a week before/after school for free tutoring in the Media Center.
credit by exam
Students have an opportunity to earn high school credit by taking an exam for a course that the student has not been enrolled in. This allows students to test out of a course that the student can show mastery in without taking the course. The current enrollment is for single semester courses only. Full year course exams will be administered in May.
Please see the information packet for details regarding the winter exam for credit. The registration link is on the last page of the packet.
The deadline to submit an application via Google form is December 7th!

Attendance
Our students’ attendance matters to us. We want and expect them to be here as much as possible. We value their presence, and their academic success is dependent on it. Organized or coordinated absences from school are not endorsed by Rochester Community Schools, for example “Senior Skip Days”. Students who decide to take part in these events will be responsible for all missed work and assessments that occur on that day. Teachers will be continuing instruction as normal.

THE IMPORTANCE OF EVERYDAY GRATITUDE
Appreciating your blessings - however small - can help your problem-solving ability and overall mood. Gratitude is an important part of resilience, because if you can see the good things in your daily life, you are more likely to be able to see the good when things are hard. Gratitude is a skill that can be developed with practice. Try doing one thing each day that helps you focus on the positive aspects of life. Try some of these ideas and see what works for you:

Gratitude is a skill that can be developed with practice. Try doing one thing each day that helps you focus on the positive aspects of life. Try some of these ideas and see what works for you:
- Write a note thanking someone who has done something nice for you.
- Pay attention to the world around you - a beautiful sunset, your children laughing together, a funny looking dog. Take a picture of it to remind you of the enjoyable moment.
- Start a gratitude jar and have family members write something they are grateful for and read them together every few months.
- Make a collage representing the things and people that make you happy and hang it in a place where you will see it every day.
- Text a friend and tell them something you appreciate about them.
When you put these simple acts of gratitude into your daily life, gratitude will become a part of the way you think.

donation opportunities
Rochester Community Schools believes that an important foundation for successful teaching and learning includes the need to feel safe, valued, and respected. To that end, Stoney Creek High School will be participating in No Place for Hate®, a national program that supports schools in their commitment to honor diversity, promote respect for differences, challenge bias, and prevent bullying at all levels.
No Place for Hate was developed by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a leading anti-hate organization that has worked for more than a century to “secure justice and fair treatment to all.” No Place for Hate will help RCS incorporate valuable resources into existing programs to have one consistent message of inclusivity.
To learn more about No Place for Hate, or to access family resources on challenging bullying and bias, please go to: https://www.adl.org/education-and-resources/resources-for-educators-parents-families.
